Types of Ball Valves
Different ball valve designs are available to meet the requirements of industrial and commercial piping systems.
1. Stainless Steel Ball Valves
Stainless steel ball valves are commonly selected for applications requiring corrosion resistance, durability, and reliable flow isolation. Depending on the stainless steel grade and construction, they can be suitable for water, certain chemicals, industrial fluids, and process applications.
They are used in manufacturing facilities, commercial installations, and selected chemical-processing systems.
2. Brass Ball Valves
Brass ball valves are widely used in plumbing, water distribution, and general-purpose fluid-control applications. They offer practical installation and operation for compatible services.
The suitability of a brass valve depends on the fluid composition, pressure, temperature, and the manufacturer's specifications.
3. Carbon Steel Ball Valves
Carbon steel ball valves are used in industrial applications where mechanical strength and pressure-handling capability are important. Depending on the valve design and specification, they may be suitable for oil and gas systems, industrial process lines, and other demanding pipeline applications.
The correct pressure class, temperature rating, and material specification should always be verified before installation.
4. Two-Piece Ball Valves
A two-piece ball valve consists of two main body sections assembled around the internal components. These valves are available in various sizes, materials, and connection configurations for general industrial and commercial applications.
5. Three-Piece Ball Valves
Three-piece ball valves feature a body construction that can facilitate maintenance and access to internal components in suitable designs. They are often considered for installations where inspection, cleaning, or servicing requirements influence valve selection.
6. Flanged Ball Valves
Flanged ball valves connect to compatible pipeline flanges using bolted joints and appropriate gaskets. They are used in industrial installations where flanged connections are required for assembly, isolation, or maintenance.
7. Threaded Ball Valves
Threaded ball valves connect to compatible threaded pipework. They are commonly used in smaller pipeline systems and general-purpose applications where the connection design, pressure rating, and fluid compatibility permit their use.
The appropriate ball valve type should be selected according to the requirements of the particular installation rather than appearance or size alone.
